I dreamt that I was standing on the edge of the cliff,

spreading my wings,

holding my breath and letting myself fall.

I heard you call my name and I found you.

Silently we flew through the air.

I dreamed that I was standing on the edge of the cliff,

drawing my arms,

holding my breath and plunging into the tide.

Every swim breathed life into me.

Silently I followed your call for my name.

You smell like a breath of wind being swallowed by the wave.

You taste like the tear that moistens my lips.

You sound like the blackbird that greets the night.

I dreamed that my wings would carry me away from you.

Your body became smaller and smaller until I no longer saw it.

I dreamt that you were caught in a current.

Your body became smaller and smaller until it disappeared completely.

I did not dream that I had forgotten the sound of your voice,

that I could no longer smell your smell

and that I could no longer taste you.

I feel the breeze before it is swallowed by the wave.

I taste the tear as it moistens my lips.

I hear the sound of the blackbird greeting the night.

The Backbird
